Rangel on thin ice

After being found in violation by the House ethics panel, Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) may soon (as in Wednesday) lose his chairmanship of the powerful Ways and Means Committee. Not only are the Republicans pressuring speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to strip Rangel of the position, but many Democrats — especially those facing re-election this year [...]

The end of Paterson’s political career

The news just keeps getting worse for New York Gov. David Paterson… Not only has a scandal involving his aide cost him his re-election, but now as more details emerge Paterson may be facing criminal charges:
Mr. Paterson instructed his press secretary, Marissa Shorenstein, to ask the woman to publicly describe the episode as nonviolent, according [...]

Paterson to quit re-election bid

After insisting on going through re-election, New York Gov. David Paterson will now abandon his re-election hopes but will serve out his current term. The Democrat establishment always had somebody else in mind for that job: Andrew Cuomo. I think the establishment finally got what it wanted with the revelation of a scandal:
Paterson has been [...]

Unethical Rangel

The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct has found Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) to be in ethics violation stemming from trips he took to the Caribbean:
The House ethics panel has been investigating several trips taken by Mr. Rangel and several other Democratic lawmakers in 2007 and 2008. The investigation looked at travel by Mr. Rangel [...]

Trouble lurking for Gov. David Paterson?

Rumor has it that New York Gov. Paterson has met with Democrat leaders to discuss him stepping down in anticipation of a NYT “bombshell” story about the governor. Oh, that and the question of his re-electability.

The KSM trial: Is it or is it not NYC?

The Justice Department and White House may be considering a new — umm, old? — venue to try master terrorist Khalid Sheik Mohammed. It was supposed to be NYC because Attorney General Eric Holder thinks that’s where the crime was committed. So naturally, NYC would be the place to hold the trial.
But guess what? Hell [...]

KSM trial: When is the enemy just a criminal?

The al Qaeda terrorists who planned and executed the NYC and Pentagon attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 weren’t members of a sophisticated international crime ring. They were members of a worldwide terrorist group bent on destroying America and the West. They valued the senseless act of mass murder over the value of their own lives. [...]

9/11 mastermind to be tried in criminal court

More insanity from the Obama administration: Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will stand trial in criminal court in NYC:
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and four others accused in the attacks will be put on criminal trial in New York, Attorney General Eric Holder is expected to announce later Friday. The decision, [...]

Blame Obama, blame Biden, blame Dede, blame GOP, but don’t blame conservatives

Republicans claim two new governorships in Virginia (Bob McDonnell) and New Jersey (Chris Christie), but lost by a small margin in the drama that is NY-23. The flood of high profile endorsements from Palin, et. al. was not able to carry Doug Hoffman over the winning edge. However, had Dede Scozzafava bowed out of the [...]

How Dede was wooed by Democrats

Soon after Dede Scozzafava (R-NY) dropped out of the NY-23 race, top Democrats began wooing her to endorse Bill Owens (D-NY). Among those engaged in luring her to the “dark side” included Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY), Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, N.Y. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, and even Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY). Even the White House [...]

A RINO bites back, sickens GOP

Just not long ago Dede Scozzafava (R-NY) bowed out (or pushed out) of the NY-23 race, but soon enough she’s showing her true colors by publicly supporting Bill Owens (D-NY) against surging Doug Hoffman:
I want to thank you for your support and friendship. Over the past 24 hours, I have had encouraging words sent to [...]

The dawn of a new political party: the Tea Party?

There is a new political force sweeping the nation, a force that’s united, organized, and very passionate. And today it proved to the political establishments and institutions that it has the ability to influence a campaign like the NRCC and DCCC, except it has no deep pockets and no national leadership.
It did it with principles. [...]

Thanks, Dede, for suspending campaign

Dede Scozzafava (R-NY) has dropped out of the NY-23 race. Although her name will remain on the ballot, it’s now a Hoffman vs. Ownes (D) race, and the momentum is on Hoffman’s side.
From Scozzafava’s campaign website:

Dear Friends and Supporters:
Throughout the course of my campaign for Congress, I have made the people of the 23rd District [...]

NRCC concedes defeat, pulls resources from NY-23 race

Right on the heels of former N.Y. Gov. George Pataki’s (R) endorsement, among many others, of Doug Hoffman, today we hear news that the NRCC is giving up fighting for Dede Scozzafava (R) and retreating from the battlefield.
It’s now officially a Hoffman vs. Owens (D) race, as much as Scozzafava’s camp tries to deny it.
This [...]

NRCC in Riehl trouble

Newt Gingrich and RNC Chairman Michael Steele have endorsed RINO Dede Scozzafava (R-NY) for NY-23, against the tide of other prominent Republicans (e.g. Sarah Palin, Fred Thompson, Tim Pawlenty, etc.) and confounding conservatives. The main explanation from Scozzafava supporters is that they are respecting and recognizing the choice made by the local GOP leaders.
But is [...]
