It’s Independence Day, great citizens! Today we celebrate the birth of the greatest nation on Earth. For most folks, it’s a weekend to be celebrated with family and friends, enjoying grilled meals and beers, then maybe catch the local fireworks show.
The American colonies declared independence from the British Empire on July 4, 1776. It is truly an unique historical document, and moreover, a timeless piece of artifact which still resonates with many today:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Allow me to ask a sobering question: As an American today, do you feel secured in your rights to Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness?
And do you think the following “repeated injuries and usurpations” apply to President Obama and the liberal Democrats in Washington:
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
Unprecedented government spending by way of TARP legislation and industry bailouts are burdening Americans with taxes without our consent. Appointing White House czars sure sounds like erecting new offices!
Today is the day for you and I to declare independence from the federal government. Enough is enough!
