President Obama must be happy that the House passed his climate change (cap-and-trade) legislation before the start of July, and now he wants everyone to know that the White House wants to help save Americans’ electricity bills by announcing new standards for lamps:
Obama said the new efficiency standards he was announcing for lamps would result in substantial savings between 2012 and 2042, saving consumers up to $4 billion annually, conserving enough energy to power every U.S. home for 10 months, reducing emissions equal to the amount produced by 166 million cars a year, and eliminating the need for as many as 14 coal-fired power plants.
The president also said he was speeding the delivery of $346 million in economic stimulus money to help improve energy efficiency in new and existing commercial buildings.
What’s next? Will the President and his administration have something to say about how my home is decorated? Or how much gas I use to prepare dinner? Or how much liquid soap I squeeze out of the bottle?
Sorry, but last I checked the Constitution doesn’t say anything about the government being in charge of lamps. Can President Obama please just go back to worrying about his traditional duties such as national defense and protecting Americans?
